(DIP) TURKISH CHIEF NEGOTIATOR SAYS EU IS A PEACE PROJECT.

BUDAPEST, Oct 28, 2010 (TUR) -- Turkish State Minister and Chief Negotiator for EU talks Egemen Bagis said that EU is a peace project and it would be completed with Turkey's membership.

Bagis gave a conference on Turkey's EU process after referendum at Hungarian Institute of International Affairs in Budapest on Wednesday.

The constitutional amendments that have been fulfilled recently moved Turkey closer to the EU, he said. During the referendum that was held in Turkey on September 12, Turkish people chose EU standards, he said.

Bagis said that most of energy resources in the world were in the east and south of Turkey and energy chapter within the scope of the Turkey's EU accession process was not opened to negotiations due to obstructions by the Greek Cypriot side.

Bagis also had a meeting with Hungarian deputies in the parliament and asked them to support Turkey in its EU bid during Hungary's rotating EU presidency that will start in 2011.
