(DIP) GERMAN CHANCELLOR VISITS GERMAN PROTESTANT CHURCH IN ISTANBUL.

STANBUL, Mar 30, 2010 (TUR) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel pay a visit to the German Protestant Church as part of her tour of Istanbul.

After visiting the Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the German High School, Merkel and her entourage came to the German Protestant Church in the famous district of Beyoglu.

She met with pastors Holger Nollman and Aloys Butzkamm.

Turkey's Culture & Tourism Minister Ertugrul Gunay accompanied the German chancellor during the visit.

Merkel is currently paying a two-day state visit to Turkey.
