(CUL) PICASSO'S SUITE VOLLARD ENGRAVINGS ON SHOW IN ISTANBUL.
The renowned Spanish cubist's collection "Suite Vollard" will be on display at the Pera Museum from February 16 to April 18.
The exhibition will present the entire collection, 100 pieces, considered the most important engraving series from the first half of the 20th century.
The engravings were commissioned by Ambroise Vollard, a famous art dealer and a close friend of Picasso's, in the period 1930-1937.
Picasso executed the engravings by first making incisions in metal plates, filling them with ink and then publishing on Montval paper.
A ceremony was held at the Pera Museum which was attended by Spanish Princess Elena De Borbon y Grecia.
The exhibition is a collaboration between the Pera Museum, Fundacion MAPFRE and Instituto Cervantes.
The engravings were a result of the collaboration between Picasso and his close friend, an ardent admirer of his work, an extraordinary editor and also a famous art dealer of the period, Ambroise Vollard.
Picasso's loves, the model and the sculptor, nudity, portraiture and different mythological themes appear in these engravings where not only the topics but also the style and the technique provide insight into the artist's creative universe of the time, the 1930s; when he was at the height of his artistic production.
