(CUL) INTERNET USERS IN TURKEY SPEND 8 HOURS SURFING ON NET PER WEEK.

ISTANBUL, Mar 29, 2010 (TUR) -- Director General of Google Marketing for Turkey, the Middle East and Africa, Mustafa Icil, said Monday internet users in Turkey spend an average of eight hours surfing on the net per week.

Speaking at a seminar titled "Discovering internet with Google" at the Association of Economy Journalists (EGD) in Istanbul, Mustafa Icil said that companies in Turkey have defeated their fear of the internet.

Internet facilitated opportunities for new sources of income for businesses, Icil said.

Companies need to utilize the internet in order to update information regarding their entities for internet users, Icil indicated.

According to Icil, 400,000 small and medium scale businesses in Turkey have web sites. There are around 2,000,000 small and medium scale businesses in Turkey.

Around 10,000 small and medium scale businesses sell goods in Turkey via the internet, Icil stressed.

In 2009, we have trained representatives of 900 small and medium scale businesses in Turkey, Icil underlined.

In 2010, we plan to train the staff members of 6,000 small and medium scale businesses in Turkey, Icil said.

Google has created an unbelievable economy for itself and its users, Icil said.

Icil said that "Turkish internet users surf on the net primarily for research and new information. The rest utilize the net for sending messages, participation in social networks and entertainment and games".

Google Inc. is a multi-national public cloud computing and Internet search technologies corporation. Google hosts and develops a number of Internet-based services and products, and generates profit primarily from advertising through its AdWords program.

The company was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, often dubbed the "Google Guys", while the two were attending Stanford University as Ph.D. candidates. It was first incorporated as a privately held company on September 4, 1998, with its initial public offering to follow on August 19, 2004.

The company's stated mission from the outset was "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful", and the company's unofficial slogan - coined by Google engineer Paul Buchheit - is 'Don't be evil'. In 2006, the company moved to their current headquarters in Mountain View, California.
