'Thousands of reconstruction projects implemented'

KABUL (PAN): About five thousand uplift projects launched under National Solidarity Programme (NSP) by the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitations and Development (MRRD), some of the project have already been completed while the rest were under completion.

This was said by Muhammad Ihsan Zia, MRRD minister while addressing a press conference on Wednesday. He said the over all cost of the projects were over 3.22 billion afghanis.

The minister said in addition to NSP projects 88 other development projects in education, alternative livelihood, agriculture, road construction health clinics have been started in last three months of the year in 28 provinces of the country at the cost of 435 million afghanis.

He did not give more details but said 88 projects were underway in Urozgan, Bamyan, Baghlan, Balkh, Parwan, Paktia, Paktika, Panjsher, Takhar, Jozjan, Khost, Daikundi, Zabul, Sar-i-Pul, Ghazni, Ghor, Faryab, Kabul, Kapisa, Kunduz, Kandahar, Kunar, Laghman, Logar, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Herat and Helmand provinces.

He said in last three months irrigation projects, road construction, agriculture machineries for farmers have been implemented in 60 projects of 14 provinces at the cost of 950 million afghanis from Counter Narcotics Trust Fund (CNTF).

Zia said the ministry has responded to 295 uplift projects on emergency situation work for food in 31 provinces.

He said 41 of the projects have been implemented and the rest are underway.

He said under the programme over 50000 metric tons food stuff has been distributed to 43000 people in various provinces.

The minister said 791 new uplift projects will be implemented by MRRD in next nine months at the cost of over four billion afghanis.

According the officials of MRRD in last six years over 20000 uplift projects have been implemented by MRRD.

Zia said six employees including some heads of departments have been sacked due to involvement in embezzlement, but their cases have not been referred to attorney due to lack of evidences.
