`MUM TOLD PSYCH I ATR I ST SHE WOULD KILL HERSELF' Inquest hears of woman's agony.

Byline: Lisa Jones

A WOMAN who hanged herself had threatened to commit suicide if she was discharged from hospital.

Pontypridd coroner Philip Walters said he was concerned that the hospital let Yvonne Griffiths leave without a reason.

A Pontypridd inquest heard that the 47-year-old had been admitted to hospital three times in as many days, complaining of chest pains and depression.

In a statement to court, Ceri Griffiths said his mother had twice been discharged from the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant, without medication, as medics could find nothing wrong with her.

On January 7 Mrs Griffiths was re-admitted, kept in overnight, prescribed anti-de-pressants and tranquillisers and discharged.

Ceri said: ``She had told the doctor that if she went home, she would kill herself.''

The married mother of four, of Church Street, Ton Pentre, was found dead in the attic of her home on January 12.

Another son, Matthew Griffiths, spoke to the coroner from the public gallery.

He said: ``My mother told the psychiatrist she was going to kill herself. Why wasn't she sectioned?''

David Lewis, executive director of finance for the Pontypridd and Rhondda NHS Trust, said: ``We have been advised by the coroner of the concerns expressed at this inquest.

``Should Mrs Griffiths' family wish to meet with the trust to discuss their concerns, we will be very happy to arrange this at their convenience.

``In the meantime, the trust wishes to extend its sympathies to the family for their sad loss.''

Consultant pathologist at the Royal Glamorgan, Dr Carrie Champ said everything about Mrs Griffiths' body had been normal.

The coroner Philip Walters said: ``I am concerned that she had been admitted to hospital and apparently been discharged with no reason.''

The coroner recorded that she had killed herself and the cause of death was hanging.
