[2] UPDATE; PORTE SNUBS HAWKS.

EURO rugby star Danny Porte snubbed Velvet Cup-holders Glasgow Hawks yesterday when he agreed to join Tennents Premiership champs Watsonians.

The prop-cum-hooker had been expected to play for Hawks against Hawick at Old Anniesland tomorrow after moving from Penzance, but opted for Myreside.

Sonians coach Andrew Ker said: "Danny's appearance was too late to get his registration sorted out before our match with West of Scotland."

CURLING: Scotland will fight out both of today's European Championship semi- finals at Flims, Switzerland. Gordon Muirhead's men beat Germany 6-3 yesterday and face Norway, and Rhona Martin's women take on the Swiss after beating France 5-4.

GOLF: New Zealander Philip Tataurangi fired a four-under 68 to take a one-shot lead in the New Zealand Open in Auckland.

ICE HOCKEY: Cardiff Devils blasted hosts Bracknell Bees 4-1 last night to move to within four points of Sekonda Superleague pace-setters Manchester Storm.

Other result: London Knights 2, Sheffield Steelers 2 (overtime).
