A NEW risk has been highlighted - and it concerns giving your baby water.

Water may seem like a harmless and healthy drink. After all, the importance of adults drinking enough is well-known and frequently broadcast.

But consumed by infants, it could cause water intoxication, which in turn can lead to seizures and ending up in a coma. It can even prove to be fatal.

Here's how our readers reacted to the revelations: Joan Anderson said: "Another fad - years ago you were told to give cool boiled water as babies get thirsty. And a good few generations of kids had no problems."

Laura Robertson added: "They bring out all these changes when years ago it did no one any harm."

Lynn Pirry wrote: "I feel really sorry for any young first-time parents. They must be so confused."

Stephen Barkey said: "What's the old saying, everything in moderation?" Katie Flynn added: "A midwife advised me to give my son water when he was constipated. It really seemed to help him."
