 VIRAZOLE ANTIVIRAL AUTHORIZED FOR USE IN NETHERLANDS ANTILLES
 COSTA MESA, Calif., July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The antiviral Virazole has been registered and authorized by health authorities for marketing in Netherlands Antilles for general viral infections, SPI Pharmaceuticals Inc. (AMEX: SPI) announced today.
 Netherlands Antilles, with a population of 150,000, is located in the southern portion of the Caribbean near Venezuela. The authorization makes it the 44th country to authorize Virazole for at least one indication. The Netherlands Antilles authorization is for all formulations of Virazole including capsules, tablets, intravenous, liquid and aerosol. Scientific data from clinical trials involving Virazole conducted in the United States and Mexico was considered by health authorities in Netherlands Antilles in granting the authorization.
 Virazole is available in aerosolized form in the United States and more than 20 other countries for the treatment of infants hospitalized with severe lower respiratory tract infection caused by respiratory syncytial virus. In countries outside the United States, Virazole is available for a variety of viral infections.
 The patent to Virazole (ribavirin) is held by Viratek Inc. (AMEX: VRA, VRAE), which receives royalties on its sale by SPI.
