COOPER'S JOINT VENTURE RECEIVES GAS TURBINE ORDERS WORTH $70 MILLION
HOUSTON, July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Cooper Rolls, an equally owned joint venture of Cooper Industries, Inc. (NYSE: CBE) and Rolls-Royce plc of London, has received orders worth $70 million for seven Coberra(R) gas turbines and two Cooper-Bessemer(R) centrifugal gas compressors. The equipment is destined for offshore oil and gas platform service in North Sea and Malaysian waters. Cooper's share of the orders is more than $37 million.
A Coberra gas turbine consists of a Rolls-Royce industrial gas generator matched with a Cooper-Bessemer power turbine, often driving a Cooper-Bessemer centrifugal compressor.
Esso Production Malaysia Inc. (EPMI), a contractor to PETRONAS, the National Oil Corporation of Malaysia, has ordered two Coberra gas turbines with Cooper-Bessemer centrifugal compressors for gas compression service on its Guntong "D" platform offshore from the Malaysian Peninsula. Delivery of this equipment is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 1993.
In addition, through the EBARA Corporation of Japan, EPMI has ordered three Coberra units for its Jerneh platform offshore Malaysia in the South China Sea. Also slated for gas compression service, these three gas turbines are scheduled for delivery in the third and fourth quarters of 1993.
Shell U.K. Exploration and Production (operator in the U.K. sector of the North Sea for Shell and Esso) placed orders through AMEC Engineering for two Coberra gas turbines for its Charlie and Delta offshore platforms on the Brent Field in the North Sea. To be used for gas export service, the two units are scheduled for delivery in the first quarters of 1994 and 1995.
With these new orders, Cooper Rolls has a total of over 125 Coberra gas turbines installed or on order for offshore oil and platform service worldwide. Coberra gas turbines have over 20 million hours of operating experience.
Cooper Industries, with 1992 revenues of $6.2 billion, is a diversified, worldwide manufacturer of electrical products, electrical power equipment, tools and hardware, automotive products, and petroleum and industrial equipment.
