HILLSBORO, Ore., July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- OrCAD today announced that last week it started shipping PC Board Layout Tools 386+, which was introduced March 22. As of today, over 2,000 copies of the product have been shipped. The product, a totally new set of 32-bit layout tools, enables a whole new group of board designers to cut time-to-market by providing for the first time workstation functionality at a fraction of the cost of workstation tools.
The PC Board Layout Tools 386+ enable more control of the design process and the electrical environment of the design; easier creation and reuse of complex component shapes needed for high speed, high density designs; rapid connection of dense modules with the different pin spacings that are needed to package the functionality; and faster completion of the design, its verification and release to manufacturing. Free demo disks are available from OrCAD.
All OrCAD PCB II customers who were registered on or after Nov. 1990 are entitled to the new layout tools free of charge. "We have a large PCB II user base which has been expecting an upgrade from us for some time now," stated Dick Gomez, OrCAD product marketing manager. "We felt we owed our customers this product free of charge to show our appreciation for their patience. We know from our beta users' comments that customers will be more than pleased with this completely redesigned version of the tools."
According to Jeff Gile, a Roseville, Calif.-based service bureau owner and operator and a long-time user of OrCAD's PC Board Layout Tools, this product will cause a revolution in board layout and design because so many more designers will be able to afford to use a high-end product. "To optimize board results and minimize time-to-market, as well as to maximize my profits, it is essential that the layout service and the design engineer work as a team," stated Gile. "I insist on my clients having OrCAD tools because this enables the review process to go much faster and more accurately. In fact, it is my experience that if the design engineer is involved in the layout process and he or she has the same tools as the layout facility, more than 30 percent of the total board design time can be saved, even on the most complicated boards."
In the U.S., PC Board Layout Tools 386+ sells for $2,495. The free upgrade program is available to all PCB II users who were registered on or after Nov. 1990. The new product includes a warranty period of free technical support and, for current PCB II users, continuation of their support agreement upon upgrade, or 90 days free support, whichever provides the longest coverage. The price also includes access to the OrCAD Bulletin Board System for one year after purchase. Product information can be obtained by contacting OrCAD, Hillsboro, Ore. at 503-690-9881.
In Europe, pricing, product and distribution information can be obtained by contacting OrCAD's European headquarters in Paris by phone at (33-1) 45.75.50.00 or by fax at (33-1) 45.77.82.89.
