LOWES FOODS INC. KEEPS ITS 'APPLES FOR THE STUDENTS' CAMPAIGN ROLLING
 WHAT: Lowes Foods Inc. and Apple Computer, Inc. are announcing a continuation of the acclaimed "Apples For The Students" campaign, which so far has provided $1.2 million in free computers, software and other electronic equipment to deserving North Carolina students. On a national basis, the last three years of this campaign have yielded over $100 million of free Apple computers, equipment and software for over 70,000 schools. All this with no burden to schools or taxpayers. Announcements will include significant expansions to the previous program, such as new equipment from Texas Instruments, Magnavox and more. Students and teachers will demonstrate computer instruction and learning in a classroom setting. There will be a surprise donation of computers to the Union Cross Elementary School during the press conference.
 WHO: From the Office of the Governor, Dr. Jackie Jenkins, Senior Education Advisor, will discuss matters of importance pertaining to North Carolina schools. Lowes Foods President Dennis Hatchell will detail new additions to the program and discuss future goals.
 WHEN: Thursday, Jan. 2, at 2:00 p.m. Refreshments provided.
 WHERE: The Media Center of the Union Cross Elementary School in eastern Forsyth County. (Directions to follow.)
 WHY: To continually upgrade and extend this highly successful campaign to more schools and more students in North Carolina.
 DIRECTIONS: (1) Traveling west on Interstate 40 to Kernersville take the Highway 66 exit and go south. (2) Travel 1.2 miles to Ciener Ford (on the right) and make a right turn onto Shields Road. (3) Travel 1.2 miles to Union Cross Road and make a left turn onto Union Cross Road. (4) Travel a total of 4.1 miles on Union Cross Road until you reach High Point Road. During this time you will cross Old Salem Road (after 1.4 miles), then cross the new by-pass under construction (after another .9 mile) and then pass Glenn High School (after another .6 mile). (5) At High Point Road turn left, then go about 300 yards where you will turn into the school parking lot.
