NIELSEN ANNOUNCES TECHNOLOGY PARTNERSHIP WITH EDS
NORTHBROOK, Ill., June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Nielsen Marketing Research USA (NMR USA) today announced that it has selected EDS as its technology partner and its intent to negotiate a ten-year technology agreement. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Under the agreement, EDS will assume responsibility for certain information technology functions at Nielsen's Green Bay, Wisconsin data center. This includes management of hardware and software, computer operations and system software support.
"This partnership will advance Nielsen's rapid growth, assisting us in strengthening our focus on delivering value-added services and solutions to our customers," said Richard P. Derr, president, Nielsen Information Services, NMR USA.
The Nielsen data center operations in Green Bay have been consistently rated above industry averages in efficiency. Outsourcing will allow Nielsen access to EDS' larger and more flexible information technology infrastructure. Among other capabilities, this will provide greater processing capability during peak periods.
"We look forward to partnering with the premier player in the marketing and decision support industry," said Toby Tobaccowala, president of EDS' Media Division. "This partnership will allow Nielsen to focus on its core business, while EDS applies its information technology resources and expertise to help increase Nielsen's competitive advantage in its marketplace."
Nielsen will continue to supply and control Data Processing Management, Resource Planning, Applications Development and Customer Support Services. Nielsen's Networking department will continue to support the NMR and client interconnection design and implementation and continue to determine the configuration of all LAN-related communication devices. Nielsen will also maintain Store Receipt Operations, Production Job Control, Recovery Services, Data Management, and its Data Centers in Fond du Lac, Wis., and Omaha, Neb.
Nielsen customers will realize the benefits of increased processing power and have access to the latest technological advances EDS has at its disposal. The transition will be virtually transparent to customers. EDS has excellent security processes, maintaining the integrity of sensitive and proprietary information.
Approximately 10 percent of the Green Bay facility employees will be affected by this partnership, with many having the opportunity to interview for available positions with Nielsen and EDS.
EDS has operations in more than 30 countries, employs more than 70,000 people and is a leader in applying information technology to meet the needs of businesses and governments around the globe. Stock reflecting EDS' performance is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol GME. EDS reported revenues of $8.2 billion in 1992.
