EZCONY INTERAMERICA ANNOUNCES FIRST AND SECOND QUARTER REVISIONS
MIAMI, Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Ezcony Interamerica Inc. (NASDAQ: EZCOF) announced today that it would reallocate $1.3 million of sales from its 1993 first quarter to the second quarter. As a result, second quarter sales will be restated as $26.6 million and first quarter sales as $22 million.
The loss for the second quarter will be decreased $190,000 to approximately $1.1 million from approximately $1.3 million (or $0.25 per share from $0.29 per share) while the first quarter loss will be increased by a like amount from approximately $178,000 to approximately $368,000 (or $0.04 per share to $0.08 per share).
The reallocation arose during an internal review of shipping records by the company in December which revealed that its computer processing system in Panama City, Panama incorrectly invoiced certain early April shipments from the company's warehouse in the Free Trade Zone in Colon with a March 31 date. During a spot-check, the company discovered no other instances of incorrectly dated month-end invoices.
After a detailed investigation with the assistance of outside counsel, the company believes that the error occurred because some April shipping documents were inadvertently mixed with late March shipping documents and invoiced through the computer at the same time when closing out the month of March.
In September, the company consolidated its data processing operations in Panama at its warehouse location in the Free Trade Zone and is instituting several changes in its computer processing system to guard against any further recurrence of misdated invoices. In addition, the company will engage its auditors, Coopers & Lybrand, to prepare review procedures for the quarterly cut-off and to review the newly implemented changes in its cut-off procedure.
