/ FIRST AND FINAL ADD -- DE013 -- FORD MOTOR COMPANY SALES /
Comments: The following may be attributed to Robert L. Rewey,

vice president - Sales Operations, Ford North American Automotive Operations:
"Although the economy has not recovered as vigorously as we'd hoped, we still expect better market conditions to materialize during the 1992 model
year. Moreover, we're confident that our major new truck and car programs for 1992 will stimulate retail sales of Ford and Lincoln- Mercury products."
"Initial public acceptance of our new 1992 products re-enforces our confidence that Ford and Lincoln-Mercury dealers will capture a larger share of the 1992 market. During October, our dealers reported sales increases over September for Ford Taurus, Econoline/Club Wagon and Bronco, along with Mercury Sable. Once again, the Ford Division widened its margin of truck leadership substantially, as Explorer set another record, bringing its volume so far in 1991 to almost 205,000 units -- a 45 percent increase over last year's combined sales of Explorer and Bronco II."
"There's been no fundamental change yet in the retail auto market. While many of the ingredients for an upturn already are present, there may not be a significant improvement until consumers become more confident about the economic outlook. News of lower interest rates would be a positive influence."
