'fagin' roma gang jailed.
The network of extended families had around 40 youngsters robbing tourists in the French capital around the Louvre, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Eiffel Tower.
The ringleaders were jailed for up to eight years, with the heaviest terms going to the network's women, including mothers. Charges ranged from child abuse to theft and handling stolen goods.
Likening them to modern-day Fagins, senior judge Dominique Piot told the Paris Correction Court they practised "industrialscale exploitation of their own children", often beating them if they failed to steal at least two wallets or phones per day.
