'ZEN INTERGALACTIC NINJA' IS BEST-SELLING BLACK-AND-WHITE COMIC BOOK OF THE '90S

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The new champ of black-and-white comics is being touted at the 1993 Comic Book Expo, which starts today at the San Diego Convention Center here.
Don Chin, publisher of "Zen Intergalactic Ninja" said, "Zen has broken out from the comic-book specialty shop and onto newsstands, with the biggest combined circulation in North America."
Back in the go-go '80s, the black-and-white champ was "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" -- who then went on to conquer the world of pop culture. History appears to be repeating itself, as Zen has already spawned a line of action figures from Just Toys, a pair of videogames from Konami, as well as posters, Halloween masks, trading cards and other licensed items.
Created in 1987 by writer Steve Stern and artist Dan Cote, the first issue of Zen is valued by the "Comic-Book Collector" price guide at up to $250.00.
Chin said he is also launching a full-color "Zen" title later this year to meet public demand.
"This is a very exciting time for Zen," Chin said. "He's already in development as a t.v. cartoon by Emmy-winning Ruby-Spears Productions."
