'Your dad is dead' bunglers.

A FURIOUS son yesterday blasted hospital staff who told him his alive-and-well father was dead.

John Duncan, 38, called Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and was devastated when a nurse told him his dad, also John, 66, had passed away the night before.

The kitchen porter had already begun phoning 70 relatives with the news - and it was only when he went to pick up widower John Snr's clothes that he discovered the mix-up.

It was another John Duncan, 62, in the ward who had died and their records had been confused.

John Jnr, from Cornhill, said: "We're all fuming. This is out of order and I'll be complaining officially.

"My girlfriend Carol went into the ward first and didn't know what to say when my dad asked her what was wrong."

But TB sufferer John Snr's brother Thomas was not even told of the error when he also arrived.

NHS Grampian said: "We apologise unreservedly. It was a human error and procedures will now be tightened."
