'WE ASK THE LORD TO SET SHANE FREE FROM THE DARKNESS WHICH OVERWHELMED HIM' Shocked friends and family gather for knife killer's funeral.
DERANGED Shane Clancy who murdered Sebastian Creane and then stabbed himself to death was buried yesterday.
The 22-year-old had become overwhelmed by darkness, mourners at the packed the Church of the Assumption in Dalkey, Co Dublin, were told.
He stabbed 22-year-old Sebastian to death and seriously injured the victim's brother Dylan and friend Jennifer Hannigan in a frenzied attack last Sunday before stabbing himself to death.
Fr John McDonagh said the community was stunned by the devastating events, which he claimed were out of character for Clancy.
He added: "Understandably we are greatly shocked by the psychotic state and destructive frenzy into which his mind suddenly entered so uncharacteristically it would seem."
Fr McDonagh also prayed for Sebastian, who he described as Clancy's innocent victim.
He said: "So now, gathered here, we ask the Lord of life to set Shane free from the darkness which overwhelmed him last weekend."
It is believed the stabbings may have been sparked by Shane's jealousy over a relationship between his ex-girlfriend Jennifer and Sebastian.
The vicious attack was carried out at Sebastian's house in the Cuala Grove area of Bray in the early hours of Sunday.
Shane's father Patrick recited wellknown funeral poem Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep during the service.
He is survived by his father, mother Leonie, step-father Tony, brothers Liam, Jake, Jack, Henry and sisters Lucy and Holly. Shane was buried in Shanganagh Cemetery.
