'Violent' granny of tragic tot.
Karen Mutch told the High Court in Forfar how she blamed her mother, Marlane Low, for her speech impediment.
Miss Mutch's new husband Mohammad Ullah, 25, denies murdering his stepson Kyle in Turriff, Aberdeenshire.
In a special defence, he is claiming that if a crime was committed it was by the baby's grandmother, Marlane.
He also denies trying to bribe his wife with pounds 5000 to say her mother was to blame for eight month-old Kyle's death.
Yesterday, Edgar Prais, QC, defending, asked Miss Mutch: 'About the time Kyle died, you were looking for a new child minder? You wanted to get somebody to replace your mother?'
She replied: 'Yes'.
Asked if she blamed her mother for her speech impediment, she replied: 'Sort of.'
Mr Prais then asked: 'Did you have a violent upbringing?'
Again, she replied: 'Sort of'. Mr Prais pressed: 'Was your mother violent to you?'
Miss Mutch said: 'Yes'. Later, she insisted she was only looking for a new babysitter because her mother was ill.
Ullah denies assaulting Kyle by striking him on the body to his severe injury and murdering him.
It is also alleged that on January 29, he assaulted another young boy. The trial continues.
