'Ty George helped me over trauma'.

Byline: By GREG TINDLE South Wales Echo

Sylvia Trott has made a very personal decision and that is to dedicate the rest of her life to help those who helped her in a desperate hour of need. It was the care of the cancer nurses and staff of the Ty George Hospice in Cardiff that she openly admits is the only reason she pulled through the trauma of the death of husband Graham.

On the eve of a well-earned retirement, 60-year-old electrician Graham was diagnosed with liver cancer.

Six months later Graham died and Sylvia's world fell apart. But it was the loving care, dedication and specialist help she received from the charity that brought her through her darkest hours.

'I didn't have any family and had no-one else to turn to when Graham was told he was terminally ill,' she said.

It was only when Sylvia, now aged 60, of Clos Ton Mawr, Rhiwbina, Cardiff, was put in touch with the Ty George Thomas charity that she saw some light at the end of the tunnel.

'A wonderful specialist nurse visited us regularly and my home was turned into a hospital,' she said.

'Graham had every support and help from Ty George Thomas.'

After Graham died six months after the originally diagnosis Sylvia was directed to the charity's bereavement service where she met others who has been through the same harrowing experience.

'I could never have got through this period without the Ty George Thomas staff and I made a decision to help them all I can - to give something back for all they had done for me,' she added.

Sylvia said her volunteer duties are to literally do anything they want.

She said: 'I don't mind organising raffles, stuffing envelopes, fundraising in the street and I've even been a car park attendant during an open day. I feel so passionately about this that I'll give anything for this organisation that helped me so much.': MORE OF OUR READERS' POIGNANT MESSAGES:Albert Boonstra, dearly Beloved husband of Cecilia.
