'TOYCOTT' TO BE HELD IN MIAMI APRIL 11
 Frontlash issued the following:
A diverse group of trade unionists, students and Chinese pro- democracy and Tibetan human rights activists are organizing an Easter season boycott of toys made in China. Coalition members will be leafletting consumers April 11, at the Toys R Us located at 8325 S. Dixie Highway in Miami from noon until 2 p.m.
The boycott known as the "toycott," is a grassroots campaign to inform consumers about human rights abuses in China and Tibet and the illegal military occupation of Tibet. Consumers will be asked not to purchase toys made in China. The toycott action was recently held in over 40 cities around the world during the Christmas holiday season.
The United States is the single largest importer of toys made in China. The United States buys 55 percent of the its dolls and 40 percent of all other toys from China.
The coalition is urging consumers to boycott toys made in China during the Easter season due to the Chinese government's history of repression and persecution of the religious. It is a tragic irony that gifts purchased during a religious holiday season provide support for a government that persecutes the religious.
According to Asia Watch, in February 1991 alone, over 54 Chinese priests were imprisoned. Many have not been heard from since. In 1989, several Chinese Protestants were arrested, and three Chinese seminarians were stripped naked, beaten and forced to lie on cold concrete as they were repeatedly burned with cigarettes by police.
A recent "60 Minutes" report highlighted the use of prison labor in the manufacture of products for the United States. One official explained that the quality of their work is guaranteed because poor workmanship is punished by a severe beating.
The coalition is urging the U.S. toy industry and U.S. government to discontinue underwriting through trade the repressive Chinese government.
