WEST CHESTER, Pa., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- In the wake of Hurricane Andrew, QVC Network Inc. (NASDAQ: QVCN) has initiated a matching funds program to support relief efforts in Louisiana and Florida by the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
QVC Chairman Joseph Segel made the first contribution with a $10,000 donation. Segel's contribution, along with all other employee donations, will be matched dollar-for-dollar by QVC.
In addition, QVC continues to air public service messages encouraging viewers across the country to call in their donation pledges to the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
"We've all seen the destruction caused by Hurricane Andrew," said Mike Boyd, president of QVC. "Thousands have lost their homes and are in desperate need of food, water and clothing. The response from employees has been outstanding, and we will continue to help our friends and families in Louisiana and Florida in whatever way we can."
QVC, the nation's largest cable shopping channel, is transmitted live, 24 hours a day, seven days a week and currently reaches more than 42 million cable homes as well as nearly 3 million homes with satellite dishes.
