'TERMINAL BLISS,' LUKE PERRY'S BIG SCREEN DEBUT,
TO BE RELEASED BY CANNON PICTURES MARCH 6
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Feb. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Luke Perry of "Beverly Hills 90210," one of the fastest rising young stars of the '90s whose fan popularity can clearly be described as "phenomenal," makes his big-screen debut in "Terminal Bliss." The film is set for national theatrical release March 6 by Cannon Pictures in major cities across the country.
When "Terminal Bliss" was first screened at the 1990 Mill Valley Film Festival, the San Jose Mercury News review stated "...this is the film 'Less Than Zero' tried to be." The review in the San Francisco Bay Guardian also stated "the most stunning debut film since 'sex, lies and videotape'...it's extraordinary." The film also won excellent reviews at several other international film festivals.
Distribution rights to "Terminal Bliss" were acquired by Cannon Pictures in 1991 as Perry's fame was just emerging. Cannon's plans for the theatrical release of the film, said Jack Fiman, the company's executive vice president, marketing and distribution, have always hinged on Perry's growing popularity. Careful to avoid competing with the major studios' releases, Fiman slated the film for an early 1992 release when major studios' releases are at a minimum and various spring break periods will commence around the country.
In the film, Perry plays a troubled, self-absorbed high school senior whose loyalties are always in question in this drama about the joys and sorrows of teens growing up rich and undisciplined. His role, which some critics have described as James Dean-like, starkly contrasts that of his famous television persona.
Co-starring in "Terminal Bliss" are Timothy Owen, Estee Chandler and Sonia Curtis. Producer is Brian Cox. First-time writer/director is Jordan Alan, who is in his early 20s.
