'Songs stunt' gun cop is suspended.

Byline: Wesley Johnson

A GUN cop accused of slipping song titles into his inquest evidence about a fatal police shooting has been suspended.

The officer, known as AZ8, was involved in the killing of barrister Mark Saunders in a shootout in London in 2008.

He is suspected of peppering his evidence with the titles of songs by Barbra Streisand, Duran Duran, Backstreet Boys and Chris de Burgh as a prank.

Saunders's family are horrified by the claims. The inquest ruled that the lawyer, an emotionally-disturbed alcoholic, was lawfully killed after firing a shotgun at police and his neighbours.

Scotland Yard confirmed yesterday that AZ8 had been suspended from the Met's CO19 firearms unit.

He had already been reprimanded for swearing repeatedly in his evidence to the inquest.
