CHICAGO, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The youngest fliers in the Friendly Skies can let their imaginations soar this month as United Airlines begins boarding "Plane Fun," a new children's inflight magazine.
"Plane Fun" includes games, puzzles, short stories, jokes and a number of creative activities for children from age 3 to 13 to enjoy as they travel on United aircraft across the United States. Some highlights of the premiere issue include articles about the Hawaiian Islands, how pilots fly planes, exploring the insect world, and a sidebar story about incredible edible insects.
The new magazine will be published semi-annually by Pace Communications of Greensboro, N.C., which already publishes United's award-winning inflight magazine, HEMISPHERES.
"`Plane Fun' includes activities and articles that will appeal to a mixture of age groups, from toddlers to pre-teens," said Pace Communications Editor in Chief Kate Greer. "With zany photos and illustrations, jokes and brain-teasers, and interesting travel and educational pieces, the magazine's lively look and fresh content reflects the interests of today's kids."
"We're hoping to please two audiences with `Plane Fun'," added United Airlines Manager-Onboard Product Support Bob Williams. "The hundreds of thousands of children who fly on United Airlines each year will like the magazine's topics and games, and their parents will have the opportunity to just relax in their seat or join in the fun as their child plays with or reads the magazine."
The 1994 Winter/Spring premiere issue of "Plane Fun" currently is available on all domestic United Airlines flights. The 1994 Summer/Fall issue is scheduled to appear next May.
Pace Communications publishes United Airlines' inflight magazine, HEMISPHERES, which recently won three coveted "Ozzie" awards for graphic design and an Avion award from the World Aviation Entertainment Association for inflight magazine excellence. United Airlines also captured the prestigious "Best Overall Inflight Entertainment" honor bestowed by the same international association, and "Plane Fun" builds on this already multi-faceted package of inflight programming offered by United.
With nearly 550 aircraft, United Airlines operates more than 2,000 daily departures to 156 destinations and 33 countries around the world.
