'PHONE SEX PEST HAD ARMS CACHE' Man, 47, charged over texts.

GARDAI found an arsenal of legallyheld weapons when they arrested a man for allegedly sending seedy texts to a woman.

Sean McKenna, 47, was charged with sending the indecent messages to the 23-year-old female.

The texts allegedly came from the phone of McKenna's wife, who died three weeks ago after a lengthy illness.

Monaghan Circuit Court heard yesterday the Co Armagh native was convicted in 2005 for sending similar texts to the same woman.

When gardai searched McKenna's home on Sunday, they discovered two shotguns, a .22 rifle with a silencer and telescopic lens and a huge amount of ammunition, all held legally.

The court was also told the accused avoided a prison sentence six years ago when he agreed to pay EUR7,450 in compensation to the victim.

McKenna, who has been living in Monaghan Town for some time, was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison by Judge Sean Martin McBride under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

He was arrested on Sunday after the alleged victim received a text as she was driving home from Cavan Hospital where she had visited her uncle.

When she believed it was from the same man who had been convicted in January 2005 for similar offences she contacted gardai in Monaghan who escorted her home, the court heard.

McKenna was then arrested and gardai searched his home where they also discovered three mobile phones and a quantity of suspected cannabis in his bedroom.

On one of the phones, it is claimed a 20-minute video clip of the alleged victim's house was found, as were recent photographs taken from her Facebook profile. The court also heard the alleged victim's home is directly opposite McKenna's.

Judge McBride was told the woman had always remained in fear of McKenna since the offences first came to light when she was just 17 and still has to be escorted to and from her work by her father.

The judge refused bail and ordered that McKenna, who has been on anti-depressants, should receive psychiatric examination in Cloverhill.
