PHILADELPHIA, July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- "Ben Franklin" (Ralph Archbold) appears to measure up to the "Meridian Money$mart Challenge," a computerized financial literacy test.
The test was part of Meridian Bancorp's (NASDAQ-NMS: MRDN) "Bank of the Future" exhibit during the open house for the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, June 26 and 27. Meridian was the grand sponsor of the open house. Ben correctly answered 19 of 20 questions, covering financial topics ranging from car insurance, to life insurance, to household budgeting, to checking account options, savings and investments.
Franklin's fellow citizens were not as financially adept as old Ben. Among the 412 test-takers, the average score was 13.6. Males outscored females on average by 14.7 to 12.5, and Republicans' average scores topped Democrats' average scores by 15.7 to 12.7.
