A WOMAN who took her pet to a groomer had to have the dog put down due to horrific burns.

Dusty, a 12-year-old Lhasa Apso, was put in a cage with an industrial hairdryer pointed at him. The pet was then left alone when a worker at KayJac Clippers in Grays, Essex, went to answer a phone. The heater left Dusty with weeping sores and burns.

His distraught owner Toni Rixson had to get a vet to put him down. Toni has now set up an online petition demanding regulation of the pet grooming industry. She said: "What happened to him was torture."

Two workers were fined PS1,000 each and given 120 hours community service.
