A BIRMINGHAM woman has spoken out after a man was arrested amid reports of gimp-suited attacker threatening women in Somerset.

Abi Conroy says she was out for a late-night walk when a man in a gimp suit appeared from the darkness and ran at her.

Abi, aged 23, said the man was wearing a "full black rubbery" outfit and "grunting and breathing heavily" before charging at her, reports the Mirror.

Passers-by came to her aid and she was able to chase him off and snap a photo of the man in his full-body outfit - with stitching around the mouth and red eyes - before he vanished through a hedge.

Ms Conroy told the Daily Mail: "If I could speak to him now I'd want to know why he does what he does. Everything is running through my head, I'd want him to know just how scary it was.

"I'd want him to know how it's affected me and that just because I'm female doesn't mean I shouldn't be going for a walk on my own at night which is what some have been saying. It's terrifying."

Ms Conroy, a barber, described the ordeal as a "massive shock" and "terrifying", and said that she wasn't sure if she was dreaming.

She goes on walks to help her to deal with her anxiety.

Ms Conroy said she is struggling to go to work around men until she knows the perpetrator has been caught.

She and her wife Pip, a 22-year-old carer, moved to the village from Birmingham Pip (left) says the incident has left the couple feeling "paranoid" earlier this year in search of a quiet life.

Pip said the incident has left the couple feeling "paranoid" and they have had a security light fitted at their home.

It is alleged that a man in a gimp suit has jumped out on some residents, appeared in windows at night, engaged in inappropriate behaviour and acted suggestively.

When Pip reported the incident involving her wife to police, an officer referred to the suspect as "Gimp Man".

The officer said "Gimp Man" had been an ongoing issue in the village for years.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: "We have arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of indecency offences in the Claverham and Yatton area.

"It follows 14 reports of a man approaching people while wearing disguises, one of which was a black body suit."

The man was later released on police bail but a second man, aged in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of indecency offences the same day.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "Inquiries into the incidents are ongoing."
