'LIVE'S' HEALTHY HEART WEEK MAKES A DIFFERENCE; REGIS PHILBIN'S HEART PROBLEM DESCRIPTION HELPS NEW JERSEY MAN RECOGNIZE OWN SYMPTOMS

BURBANK, Calif., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Bruce Fradl of Newton, N.J., had just finished dinner and was watching the last segment of the news highlighting Regis Philbin's return to "Live" after a week- long recovery from an angioplasty procedure.
During the "Live" news clip, Philbin described the chest pains he felt before checking himself into a hospital. Philbin also admitted that he had been feeling the pains for a few weeks before they became serious enough to worry about. He had assumed it was just indigestion.
The description struck a chord with Fradl, who had been feeling similar chest pains and had also written them off as indigestion.
"Don't wait," Philbin warned on television. "Just get it checked out."
Fradl began feeling chest pains again 10 minutes after the broadcast. Remembering Philbin's description and warning, he asked his wife to drive him to Newton Memorial hospital where he was told he was having a heart attack.
"Ten minutes later and he would have died," said hospital spokesperson Kevin Hyland. "We tell the public time and time again to get any chest pain checked out immediately, but when a celebrity like Regis does it, it has more impact."
"I just did what Regis suggested and got it checked out right away," Fradl said. "I may even go through the same angioplasty procedure he did. I'm glad he talked about it. Obviously, he made a difference for me. Now I hope I can turn it around and make a difference like that for somebody else."
Last week, as part of Philbin's return, "Live" featured segments on keeping the heart healthy. He discussed his heart problems openly and even had his own doctor on the show during one segment.
"Ours is basically an entertainment show," Philbin said, "but we like to make a real difference for our viewers when the opportunity presents itself. I hope people can learn from my experience, and I'm glad Mr. Fradl took my advice ... that happens so seldom."
