'LAYA OFF REDKNAPP'.

AVRAM GRANT has urged Portsmouth supporters to lay off Harry Redknapp at White Hart Lane today, insisting he is not to blame for the club's financial meltdown.

Pompey fans are bitter over their slide into administration after paying inflated transfer fees and huge wages during Redknapp's time in charge at Fratton Park. But Pompey boss Grant, who spent a year working alongside Redknapp as director of football in 2006, said: "I can only speak about the season we had together when I came to the club.

"He signed good players and played good football. He did an unbelievable job. All I know is Harry was a good manager on the pitch, just like Sacha Gaydamak was good off it.

"He is a good man and he is doing a good job at Tottenham."

Portsmouth are pounds 85million in debt and heading for the Championship after being docked nine points. Grant admitted: "The situation is very different. We're not playing for points we're playing for pride.''
