 'INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE ON MANAGED HEALTH CARE'
 TO CONVENE IN WASHINGTON SEPT. 8-10
 On Sept. 8-10, more than 150 international policy makers, health care providers and government and business and labor leaders from 50 nations will convene in Washington at the first "International Institute on Managed Health Care."
 Conference participants include representatives from countries such as Canada and Germany which are frequently cited as models for U.S. health care reform. They are convening to explore how HMOs and similar managed care systems in the United States serve as models for improving health care delivery systems abroad.
 Sessions will address many facets of operating successful managed care programs, including:
 -- Managing Medical Care and Quality Assurance Programs
 -- Managing Costs and Data Collection
 -- Provider Arrangements and Compensation Structures
 -- Utilization Management and Cost Containment
 Sessions will be conducted in English with simultaneous translation in Spanish and French. Featured speakers include Dr. Alfredo Solari, international health care analyst and former minister of health of Uruguay; and Dr. David Lawrence, president and chairman of Kaiser Foundation Health Plans, Inc. Other institute faculty include U.S. managed health care leaders.
 The "International Institute on Managed Health Care" is sponsored by the Group Health Association of America, Henry Ford Health Care Corporation, Service Employees International Union, AFL-CIO, Bull HN Information Systems, Inc., Prudential Insurance Company of America, Inc., and Kaiser Foundation Health Plans, Inc.
 DATES: Sept. 8-10. Sessions begin Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 1 p.m.
 PLACE: Mayflower Hotel, 1127 Connecticut Ave. N.W., Washington
