'I never met my pals after national service'.

KEN Wilson, of Brookfield, Middlesbrough, thanks us for finding his old school friend Brian Bailey, in Australia, and now they communicate weekly with each other.

Now he would like to share some of his memories with us, especially those of his church youth club friends at St Martin's Church, Whinney Banks, Middlesbrough, at Christmas time 1953.

Ken, now 72, was the photographer, using a camera with a time delayed setting, and is the last person on the back row.

He writes: The youth club was quite thriving, with more than 50 members, the vicar was Father Law and his curate the Rev. R J Woodley, who was in charge of the youth club.

We also had a head teacher from Lawson school who taught us dancing and during those Sunday youth club meetings we had debates on many worldly subjects which helped us all in general knowledge.

The second photograph is of St Martin's youth club hike to Great Ayton at Easter, 1957, and the average age of the members then was 21.

Two years later I and a number of my youth club friends were called up for National Service. We never met again, for whatever reasons, so for all those who are still out their, how about a reunion a special church service at St Martin's in conjunction with St Martin's of Tours 70th birthday anniversary in July? Dates and times can be arranged.

Ken can be contacted on 01642 287 145 or e- mail ken. wilson5@ ntlworld. com . We did, indeed, have the pleasure of meeting Brian and his wife while on holiday recently. They kindly took us into their home at Rockingham, south of Perth, and put themselves out to give us a tour of their beautiful area..
