'I'm loving life in this tropical paradise as seen in the films'.

Call it Kuaui, Kauai or most accurately of all Kaua'i but in any event the island that is now home to former Huddersfield woman Viv Anthony is the Garden Isle, a place as close in style to the Garden of Eden as anyone could imagine.

It is the oldest, most northern, of the main Hawaiian islands and when Bill Gates, the richest man in the world got married he took over the entire island for his wedding.

The film makers have long fallen in love with this tropical paradise too, as evidence Jurassic Park 1, 2 and 3, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Elvis's Blue Hawaii and before that South Pacific.

And here is Viv living in its principal city of Lihu'e.

She says: "Kaua'i itself is 33 miles long by 25 miles wide, year round temperature averages 82AF (28AC). It's everything you'd imagine a tropical paradise to be."

As she says, she's a housewife ("or homemaker, domestic engineer or whatever the pc thing is now"), while husband, Eric (also an ex-pat) is a helicopter engineer for Safari Aviation.

Viv was born in Halifax and soon after that the family moved to Abbey Road in Fartown.

Notably, her schooling was split between attending Fartown Secondary School and Gloster school in Honne, Germany (where she lived for a short time with her sister and brother-in-law, who were in the Army).

In fact Viv met her husband while she was in Germany and he was serving in 94 Locating Regt, Royal Artillery. They were married at Huddersfield Registry Office on June 30,1973.

Says Viv: "I moved in and out of Huddersfield over the next several years and worked at United Biscuits, and as a barmaid at the Engine Tavern on Bradford Road during the 80s.

"That was a fun place to work and led to my becoming a licenced publican and running several pubs in Yorkshire for a major brewery.

"I eventually moved to the south of England where my three children and two grandchildren live."

Her mother, Doreen Swift, still lives on Abbey Road as do her five sisters, Aileen, Beverley, Carol, Denise and Dorothy.

Viv's two brothers David and Leslie, live in Brighouse and Denton respectively.

Her last visit home to see her mum was in January of this year.

But about Kaua'i she says: "We have the longest white sand beach in the islands, Polihale on the Na Pali coast.

"I won't go on about what a fantastic place this is to live or visit ..."
