'I'll take authoritative reference sources for $1000, Alex.' - Oxford University Press helps JEOPARDY! get it right.

NEW YORK, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The next time Alex Trebek reads an answer to contestants on JEOPARDY! viewers can be assured that he's got his facts straight. That's because those questions and answers have been double-checked using the most comprehensive and accurate online references available today.

The producers of JEOPARDY! have signed an agreement with Oxford University Press -- publishers of the Oxford English Dictionary -- to give JEOPARDY! researchers access to Oxford's cutting-edge electronic resources to verify the show's questions and answers.

Oxford is an industry leader in web-based references. Thousands of libraries, universities, and research facilities use e-versions of Oxford dictionaries and encyclopedias every day.

JEOPARDY! asked Oxford University Press for access to these electronic resources to help its researchers fact check more than 14,000 questions and answers they must write every season. Here is a short list of some of the resources they now have at their fingertips:

 * American National Biography Online -- biographies of more than 17,400
 men and women whose lives have shaped the nation (

 * Oxford Reference Online-over 140 essential dictionaries and
 encyclopedias in one integrated, fully searchable database

 * Oxford Scholarship Online-a cross-searchable library containing the full
 text of over 980 Oxford books in the areas of Economics and Finance,
 Philosophy, Political Science, and Religion
