'I'll never wear my workboots again. They belong at the site' THE WORKER.

A STEEL worker places his boots and helmet at the gates of the redundant Redcar works - never to wear them again.

Dale Carling helped shut down the furnaces in the SSI plant's final hours.

The 52-year-old dad-of-three from nearby Eston said: "Steel making has been my life for 32 years. I will never wear those boots or helmet on any other job. They belong at the site."

He and fellow workers paraded around Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium as the club showed support for their plight.

Dale said: "We've had fantastic support from everyone on Teesside. It's a shame the Government didn't show us any."
