'How To Get Away With Murder' Creator Teases Season 4 Mystery.

Every season of "How to Get Away With Murder" introduces a murder mystery that gets solved during the finale. For the past three seasons, the burning question fans have is: Who committed the murder?

But this Season 4 has a twist, and executive producer Pete Nowalk said the question fans will be asking won't be who committed the crime, but where the crime is committed.

"That's how I always start the writers each year," he told ( The Hollywood Reporter . "What is our Who is under the sheet? Who killed Sam? Who shot Annalise? This year, the question is not a 'who,' it's a 'where.' It's very different than the other seasons, which is why I love it, but it's still a really great mystery."

Despite the burning question that needs to be answered, Nowalk said the major characters of the ABC show will surprisingly be enjoying a state of normalcy in their lives, and they are "eased into where they are."

"We are gonna jump a little bit in time so everyone can start in a more restful, low-key place," he said. "We'll be starting at the beginning of their second semester of their second year in law school. They're halfway done. It's their winter semester."

One such person is Annalise Keating (Viola Davis), who is busy picking up the pieces of her life. "She's definitely been beaten down, and we're going to watch her rise from the ashes, literally, of last season," Nowalk told ( Variety.

"What's exciting about the arc, and in watching Viola Davis act it, is there's going to be more vulnerability in digging into what she really wants for her life. But at the same time, her public-facing persona has to be bad [expletive]. She still has to kick [expletive] in the courtroom. She still has to be 'take no prisoners.'"

Davis' husband, Julius Tennon, will also appear next season in an undisclosed guest-starring role. According to ( Deadline , Tennon has so far been booked for only one episode.

"How to Get Away with Murder" will return for Season 4 on Sept. 28 at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
