'He disappears from home for weeks, refuses to care for our only child, woman tells court.

A housewife, Mrs Mariam Illesanmi has approached an Igando Customary Court in Lagos State seeking the dissolution of her marriage to her husband, Lateef, over allegations of abandonment and lack of care.

The petitioner claimed that her husband is fond of disappearing from their home without notice.

'We have been married for six years but I have not enjoyed any bit of my marriage. My husband would leave the house for days and anytime I ask about his whereabouts, he would refuse to speak to me for days.

'We have a five-year-old daughter and he refuses to take responsibility for her. I pay her school fees from my meagre savings and also feed and clothe her.

'I want the court to end this union so that I can go my way. I am tired of living in a loveless marriage,' she said.

She further asked the court to grant her custody of their child and make him perform his role as a father. The respondent was however not present in court

The court ordered that the court processes should be served on him while the case was adjourned until March 21.
