'Gun for Glory' shooting championship kicks off in Pune.

Pune, Aug 4 (ANI): The first 'Gun for Glory' shooting championship kicked off in Pune on Wednesday.

The week-long championship is organised with the active involvement of ace Indian shooter Gagan Narang's Gun for Glory Shooting Academy.

The academy is associated with the venture, wherein competitions featuring India's international shooters and contests for fans are planned.

Narang said this is a national level shooting championship, which has been recognized with National Rifle Association of India and gives a platform to shooters to interact with national and international level shooters.

"The 'Gun for Glory Academy' was one such idea which I wanted to promote in the country. I think such academies are the need of the hour and these kinds of academies opened a lot many years before in countries like Russia and China and you can see the results," he said.

"We need a lot of such academies all over India and another way of giving back to the system was the first Gun for Glory Shooting Championship. So, it's going to be really beneficial for the shooters coming here, also this will be a platform where the all India level shooters will get to interact with the national and international level shooters of our country and get to learn a lot," said Narang.

About 1000 shooters are participating to compete in the event, as it gives a platform for young shooters to showcase their talent.

Indian shooter Tejaswini Sawant said such championships would help in promoting shooting as a game.

"Such championships will benefit the players in Maharashtra, they can observe closely how a player plays at national and international level and many shooters can participate. The number of shooters has also increased for this competition, so there will be a healthy competition and it also promotes shooting as a game," said Sawant.(ANI)
