'Girl of 13' was police officer.

AN aircraft engineer who admitted trying to engage in sexual communication with a child in an internet chatroom received a 20 weeks suspended jail term.

David Knight, 47, of Tecwyn Drive, Connah's Quay, Flintshire, was ordered to undertake a rehabilitation activity, and a sexual harm prevention order was made for seven years. He has to register as a sex offender and pay PS200 costs.

Prosecutor Justin Espie told magistrates at Mold that Knight had no previous convictions. But on November 19 he was in touch on an internet chatroom with an undercover police officer posing as a girl of 13.

A laptop and mobile phone with an "indicative" image of his interest were seized by police.

"It's mere good fortune as far as the defendant is concerned he wasn't actually talking to a child," Mr Espie added.

Defence solicitor Peter Barnett said it was a single conversation and Knight was "entirely ashamed."

Knight had already sought help.
