THOUSANDS of people are set to turn out to see some of the world's top sailing talent make some waves in Cardiff Bay this week.

Described as "Formula One on water", the Extreme Sailing Series is back in the city from Thursday to Sunday and will mark the UK debut of a brand new fleet of hydrofoiling GC32 catamarans, all of which will be put through their paces in some fast and furious conditions.

Cardiff is the third stage in a series of events which has already taken in the waters of Oman and China.

Spectators can enjoy a mix of races, with sailing expert Mark "Corky" Rhodes commentating live on the sailing action, along with a huge range of on-shore activities.

Cardiff International White Water Centre will offer the opportunity to try canoeing while Cardiff Bay Water Activity Centre is bringing along Laser Blast and ElliptiGos - a mix of push bike and cross-trainer - for people to test out.

There's also a go-kart party, BMX demonstrations, the opportunity to try a 360-degree virtual sailing experience, and a climbing wall to tackle.

The Cardiff Devils ice hockey team will be there with their shooting cage for fans to try out, while the Cardiff Blues and Glamorgan Cricket Club will also be hosting activities.

Refreshments will be provided with a range of global food stalls showcasing everything from Greek to Indian cuisine and there will also be a bar.
