'Family Pickler'knows its onions as company celebrates best festive season sales figures.

A REBRANDING has helped St Helens family firm Bartons Pickles achieve their best Christmas sales figures.

Bartons, which has been trading for more than 110 years, has supplied Asda for 16 years and sells its famous piccalilli in more than 300 stores, making it Asda's largest regional pickle producer.

Managing director Eddie Barton - aka "pickle Eddie" - worked with store chiefs to help market the business to a wider UK audience outside of the North West, resulting in new brand packaging which reflects Bartons as "The Family Pickler".

The rebrand went so well that the firm pickled sufficient silverskin onions to equal the weight of a jumbo jet.

Bartons director Joanna Jenna said: "The Asda relationship remains an important part of our business, especially when they share expertise with us like they did for the rebranding."

Roshani de Zoysa, Asda local sourcing manager for Merseyside, said: "It goes to show that there's more to our relationship with local suppliers than people might imagine."
