'Elimination of crimes duty of district admin'.

UPPER DIR -- Uprooting crime and providing basic facilities to people should be the top priority of the district administration of Upper Dir, said Malakand Commissioner Zaheerul Islam.

Addressing a ceremony as chief guest here on Tuesday, he said that deputy commissioners, civil and police officers in the division were servants of the people and they should provide better services to them. He said that officers should provide relief and give honour to people, especially the poor.

Malakand DIG Akhtar Hayat Gandapur, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Usman Mehsud, ACR Faheedullah Khan, TMO Badshah Zada and other officials were also present on the occasion.

The commissioner said that the administration should keep check on pricelists in the local bazaars and markets to ensure that daily use items were sold at official rate in the district.

He said that a check and balance system and supervision of developmental projects initiated by federal and provincial governments were also responsibilities of the civil officers and district administration to ensure transparency in utilisation of funds.

Mr Islam said that the administration should cooperate with police department to eliminate crimes and uproot drug abuse in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, DIG Gandapur said that police were making efforts to eliminate crimes and uproot drug abuse in Upper Dir. He also praised the local people for making efforts to eliminate terrorism in the area. He pledged to make efforts for keeping the district peaceful.

The DIG said that the people of Dir Upper were very brave as they played their active role to defeat terrorists in the district. He said that the people had also cooperated with police in restoration of peace in the district.
