'Efforts on to promote Ostrich farming'.
SARGODHA -- The livestock and dairy development department is striving hard to encourage people for Ostrich farming due to its rising demand and reasonable earning. This was stated by Director General (Research) livestock Dr Mohammad Iqbal during his visit here on Wednesday. He said that Ostrich farming could fulfil nutritional requirements as its meat was delicious and beneficial for human health. He said the government was striving hard to promote its farming to fulfill nutritional requirements. The 'Murghi Paal scheme' was also recognized and the government was also providing 30 percent subsidy for this purpose, adding the second phase of scheme would soon be started, he said.
He added that Ostrich farming was being considered as a profitable business which also has low cholesterol, fat, and Protein levels as compare to Chicken. The Ostrich farming can be started from 25 birds and each bird also gain hundred kilogram weight within ten months while its taste was similar to the Goat meat. The livestock department has started distribution of ostrich meat in different cities and it was also available at various prominent sale points, he added. All types of assistance and subsides were also being provided by the government for the promotion of ostrich pupulation, he stated. The Livestock department was also providing technical support and consultation for establishing successful ostrich business while efforts were also underway to enhance Hen eggs production, he added.
