'Disease Transmission lab' to focus on white flies , 12 species.

MULTAN -- A 'Disease Transmission Lab' fully equipped to conduct research on virus transmitted by White Fly would be established at Mohammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture Multan (MNS-UAM) in collaboration with Zhegiang University of Hangzhou (China).

Talking to reporter, Dean Agriculture and Environment department Professor Dr Shafqat Saeed said that an agreement for joint work for establishing a Lab and research work on different species of white flies has been signed.

White fly has been causing immense losses to cotton crop besides hitting farmers economically. Chinese scientists identified 12 species of white flies and successfully abolished the virus from their country, he said.

Dr Shafqat Saeed said that Pakistani scientists would provide assistance to Chinese scientists in countering possible threat of Burewala virus as Pak scientists had experience of eliminating Multan virus.

He said the project would be financed by Science Foundation Pakistan,

while Chinese University would get assistance from Natural Sciences Foundation of China, adding that MNS-UAM would also utilize its own

funds for the project.
