'Dean' Abe Barkan joins Douglas Elliman.

Douglas Elliman, the leading name in the New York real estate brokerage and management industry, announced that Abram Barkan, the "dean" of the real estate appraisal and consulting business, has joined its ranks as chairman of the Douglas Elliman Appraisal & Consulting Division.

Barkan retired last month as president of James Felt Realty Services, a Grubb & Ellis company. At Douglas Elliman, Barkan will direct appraisal work for institutions, commercial landlord and tenant consulting, and general real estate consulting. For this senior executive, who rose up through the ranks from messenger at James Felt, the move to Douglas Elliman is his first job change since he began his career. "My ongoing love affair with the real estate business prompted me to join this oldline but dynamic firm," said Barkan. "Douglas Elliman represents the best of traditions and innovations in the real estate industry. I'm particularly intrigued by the prospect of using my experience to consolidate and expand Douglas Elliman's appraisal and consulting work."
