'DARK HORSE,' A TOUCHING FAMILY DRAMA, WILL HAVE WORLD TELEVISION PREMIERE ON THE DISNEY CHANNEL, FEB. 27

Young Girl's Relationship with Injured Championship Horse Turns Both Their Lives Around in the World Television Premiere Film Dark Horse'
BURBANK, Calif., Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The touching family drama, "Dark Horse," will have its world television premiere on Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. (ET/PT), announced Douglas Zwick, vice president of program acquisition for The Disney Channel. This story about a girl and her horse stars Ed Begley Jr., Ari Meyers, Donovan Leitch, Samantha Eggar and movie icons Tab Hunter and David Hemmings.
Filmed on location in Idaho, this moving film begins when a recently widowed architect, Jack Mills (Begley) and his two children, Allison (Meyers) and Brian (Corey Simpson), move from Los Angeles to the country. Although Jack feels that they all agreed to make the move, Allison actually resents leaving her friends and has difficulty adjusting to rural life.
Allison's grades drop and her choice of new friends leads her into trouble with the law. As a result, she is sentenced to 10 weekends of community service at a local horse ranch.
Working at the ranch quickly turns Allison's attitude around as she develops a love for the horses and makes friends with the ranch owner, Susan Hadley (Mimi Rogers). Allison also befriends an injured championship horse, Jet, and takes on his recovery as a personal project.
However, an accident injures both Allison and Jet, shattering all of the progress they both have made. Allison loses her will to recover until her new friends rally around her. The drama ends with an unexpected climax that pairs Allison and Jet together in their recovery process.
"Dark Horse" was produced by Republic Pictures International in association with Allan Glaser-Tab Hunter Productions and Bonnie Sugar. Richard Gladstein, Bonnie Sugar, Larry Sugar and Peter McIntoch executive produced the story by Tab Hunter and screenplay by J.E. MacLean. Allan Glaser was the producer and David Hemmings directed.
"Dark Horse" will also air on March 5 at 8 p.m., March 11 at 6 p.m., and March 27 at 4 p.m. All these times are ET/PT.
The Disney Channel, which celebrates its 10th anniversary in April, is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Co.
