'COCA-COLA -- HOMERS FOR AMERICA' ANNOUNCES 'GRANT SLAM' FOR YOUTH-LEAGUE BASEBALL FIELDS

Eleven U.S. Cities to Receive Funds In First Wave
Of Grants in Ongoing Effort for America's Youth
ATLANTA, May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Coca-Cola and Major League Baseball today announced that 11 cities across the nation will receive grants to rebuild youth-league baseball fields as part of the "Coca-Cola -- Homers For America" program.
"Coca-Cola -- Homers For America," a collaborative fund-raising effort between Coca-Cola USA and Major League Baseball, generated $560,000 to build and renovate youth-league baseball parks in 1992. Through the multi-year program, $5,000 is donated for every home run hit on July 4 during the day's Major League and Minor League contests.
The program was expanded last season to include homers hit during the 1992 World Series, raising an additional $60,000 for the program.
"There just aren't enough recreational facilities for young people today," said Doug Invester, executive vice president and principal operating officer/North America for The Coca-Cola Company. "'Coca-Cola -- Homers For America' allows us to serve as a 'relief pitcher' for America's youth by giving more of them a chance to play ball."
"With these grants, Major League Baseball and Coca-Cola are able to address a critical need in places where resources are limited," said Len Coleman, executive director of Market Development, Major League Baseball.
"Coca-Cola -- Homers For America" grant recipients are determined by an advisory board designated by Major League Baseball. Other grant announcements will be made soon.
