'Be kind to Kav'.

Bluebirds fans have been asked to play fair with Graham Kavanagh when he returns to Ninian Park on Saturday, April 9. The former Cardiff City skipper joined Wigan's promotion charge in a pounds 350,000 transfer eight days ago and supporters' clubs are asking: 'Please don't keep chanting for him to do the Ayatollah.'

Another former Cardiff City player, Simon Haworth, found himself in major trouble when he did 'the Ayatollah' when the Bluebirds played at Wigan's JJB Stadium a few years ago.

He responded to the Cardiff fans' chants - and left Wigan soon after.

'We have to be fair to Kav,' said Gwyn Davies, of the Cardiff City Valley Rams supporters' club.

'He didn't want to leave Cardiff and had no choice.

'Kav was a terrific player for the Bluebirds, but now he's a Wigan player.

'It's no good chanting for him to do the Ayatollah because he won't be able to.

'Give him a great welcome, but don't put too much pressure on him.'
